Pollen Allergy

Pollen Allergy

Measures against pollen allergy – early treatment

Before symptoms become too severe, it is important to begin using eye drops and taking medicine early. Early treatment can help make symptoms significantly lighter. We begin prescriptions from around mid January, so please don’t hesitate to ask us. On clear, warm and windy days, there is a lot of pollen in the air. We recommend wearing a mask and glasses. When you get home, rinse your eyes under running water.

Eye medicine for alleviating allergies

Anti-allergic medicine

Patanol, Livostin, Rizaben, Alegysal, Intal, Zajiten, Aibinaru, etc.

This kind of medicine alleviates itchiness and inflammation. Although it is fast acting, it takes about two weeks for maximum effect. Please use this medicine daily until pollen season is over. You might feel a slight smarting sensation, but if this doesn’t inconvenience you, we recommend continuing use. If the sensation is too uncomfortable after continued use, we can prescribe different medicine, so please feel free to ask.

Steroid drugs

Fluorometholone, Odomel, Rinderon, etc.

When symptoms are too strong, we recommend taking this kind of medicine in addition to regular anti-allergic medicine. Please come for a consultation to check for side effects after two weeks or more of use. In rare cases, there might be increase in eye pressure as a side effect. There is no need for concern about other side effects if the medicine is taken only over a short period of time. If your allergy symptoms become too strong, please do not hesitate to use this kind of medicine.

Medicine (pills) for alleviating allergies

It takes about two weeks before maximum effect can be felt. Please take this medicine daily until the end of the pollen season. If you still experience nasal symptoms, we can also prescribe nasal sprays, so don’t hesitate to ask. You can also consult an otolaryngologist.
